When you are thinking about and planning your wedding, does poetry come to mind? Well it should. The use of poetry in weddings dates back to Greek and Roman mythology when it was known as Epithalamion, which was an essential part of the wedding ceremony. Poems were read to honor the ceremony and the bride and groom.

You may want to consider using poetry in the invitations, included either on the front or inside the invitation. Other suggestions are to use it in the wedding announcements or thank you notes. The use of poetry adds a very personal touch and meaning to this very touching memorable event. Although some people may choose to have a songs sung, others may choose a poem recital by a close friend or family member.

You may want to consider using wedding poetry in the ceremony. You could have parents or friends recite poetry or one of the bridesmaids. You may want to check with your minister, or pastor or whomever is administrating the vows to assure a poem could be included in the ceremony. Poetry is a lovely form of expression that can be used in a multitude of ways to add beauty and joy to your ceremony.

Take the time to plan your wedding in advance so you have time to consider all of the possibilities to enhance your wedding. It is often the small details such as a poem that make the ceremony or event very meaningful and unforgettable. However, you choose to have the day unfold remember the beauty of single word as it is stated in a poem.
